M4L: GamerMIDI 2.0

GamerMIDI is a Max4Live MIDI device which allows the use of Video-Game controllers as MIDI and Modulation hardware controllers.

For the longest time I wanted to play synths with game controllers and there are some cool devices around to help you do so, but none of them had the interface and amount of customization I was looking for. So I painstakingly made this, my biggest Max device to date. It's been through so many iterations, picked up and dropped every couple of weeks, for months, but now that it's working (well enough) I thought I would share it!

PLEASE CHECK CONTROLLER COMPATABILITY

Standard Features: (can vary depending on controller)

• Controller UI that displays the controllers Inputs.
• 12 Buttons mappable to MIDI notes
• 6 Modulation Channels - Seperate X and Y axis for both sticks and a individual channels for the triggers.

NOTES:

• If you use this with a controller which hasn't been confirmed as compatible yet (see list) please report back the results to me and I can update this page for future users, or fix anything if needed.
• UI colours may vary depending on your Ableton Theme

Updates:

• Version 2.0 - 13-04-2024
  • Updated the controllers input processing object from the old "human interface/hi" object, to the new "gamepad" object, which has far better support for newer controllers i.e DualSense. (Thankyou so much to those who helped me test and fix this!)
  • The Triggers are now individual channels instead of moving a single bi-polar channel, giving a total of 6 Mod Channels.
  • Added the ability to freeze Joystick positions/values by clicking in the stick. (L3/R3)
  • Fixed Automation recording, so the channels are now correctly named and the controller can be made inactive in the UI to stop it overriding the recorded automation.
  • Some general UI changes and fixes.
